Help Bring Back Michigan's Prairie Heritage at Mio Prairie
Take part in an extraordinary conservation effort as we work to restore one of Northern Michigan's most important ecosystems. Join Huron Pines staff and MSU Extension Conservation Stewards for a hands-on restoration experience at Mio Prairie, located within the Huron-Manistee National Forest.
This rare prairie ecosystem serves as a critical habitat for native wildlife and plants that once covered vast areas of Michigan's landscape. Through focused restoration efforts, we're bringing this special place back to life and you can be part of that transformation. Together, our volunteer team will plant approximately 3,000 native plants that will establish the foundation for a thriving prairie ecosystem for generations to come.
Working alongside experienced restoration professionals, you'll gain valuable conservation skills while making a direct, measurable impact on habitat restoration. Every plant you help establish contributes to rebuilding biodiversity, supporting pollinators, and preserving Michigan's natural heritage.
Whether you're passionate about conservation, curious about prairie ecosystems, or simply want to make a tangible difference in your community's natural spaces, this event offers a meaningful way to connect with the land and fellow conservation enthusiasts.
