Watershed Overview: Au Sable

Au Sable
The Au Sable River Watershed drains portions of eight counties and 1,932 square miles. The watershed, while a high-quality resource, faces increased development pressures -- several of the counties have an overall population growth rate of 25-30%, much higher than the Michigan overall. The majority of development pressure occurs along the watershed's many lakes and streams.

The river system, a classic groundwater-fed resource, is especially susceptible and sensitive to impacts from sedimentation, fluctuating water flows, and increased water temperature.
