INVASIVE SPECIES:Invasive species are an international problem and have already cost our state millions of dollars. They adversely affect the habitats they invade by displacing native species, disrupting ecosystems and damaging commercial and natural resources.

In the past, we have worked with a number of groups to address invasive species issues in their area. As the issue has become more pressing, we have created an Invasive Species Program to better address this serious concern.

Invasive Species Program

Through the Huron Pines AmeriCorps program, we created an Invasive Species program to inventory, monitor and remove key nonnative problem species in Northeast Michigan. Early detection and rapid response are two major factors in controlling the spread of invasive species. That is why we have targeted three species for control in 2009.

How you can help: We are currently looking for volunteers to help. If you or a group is interested in volunteering, please contact the Invasive Species Coordinator, Tim Engelhardt.
