DUE SEPTEMBER 10: A great opportunity for organizations to have a better impact and expand their services is now available. Through a partnership between the Michigan Community Services Commission and Huron Pines, conservation groups can obtain some much needed help by hosting a Huron Pines AmeriCorps member.
We are seeking applications from organizations interested in hosting a full-time AmeriCorps member from January through October (43 weeks, 40 hours per week). Selection of host sites is a very competitive process and host sites will be selected based on the merit of their application and impact members would have on natural resource conservation in northern Michigan.
JULY 2010: As over 5,000 national service staff and volunteers gathered in New York City at the National Conference on Volunteering and Service, Huron Pines had a minute in the spotlight. In a publication released at the conference, the Huron Pines AmeriCorps program was selected as one of the top 52 most innovative AmeriCorps programs in the United States. Nominated by the Michigan Community Service Commission, the administrating agency for Michigan’s AmeriCorps programs, Huron Pines was the only program selected from Michigan. We would like to thank our supporters, host sites, members and the staff at MCSC for making this such an amazing program.

Designed to activate the spirit of volunteerism and stir the passion to make a difference in the community and the environment, Huron Pines AmeriCorps: Developing Leaders in Conservation gives individuals the opportunity not only to develop real-world skills, increase experience, and network with other resource professionals, but to have a real impact on the area by completing conservation projects that otherwise would not be done.
With a living stipend and other benefits, this program provides an opportunity to develop as a professional in the conservation community during a one-year or six-month term of service. AmeriCorps members have been placed in northern Michigan and Lansing with a variety of nonproft conservation organizations to assist with volunteer engagement, habitat restoration, environmental stewardship and developing new conservation services.
