We would like to recognize the hard work recently contributed to the completion of a road stream crossing improvement project on the Little Ocqueoc River. On October 24, 2008, Wolverine Power and the Presque Isle County Road Commission took the reigns to organize and complete a hands-on resource protection project. Focusing on where Peltz Road crosses the Little Ocqueoc in Presque Isle County, the group began the process of tackling non-point source sediment delivery to the river.

The crew was made up of Wolverine Power employees, Road Commission employees and members of the Ocqueoc Restoration Committee. Seen here are: Eric Baker, PIRC employees Dan Roznowski, foreman and two PIRC equipment operators, Ken Bradstreet, Charlie Lyon, Dan DeCoeur, Mike Modrzynski (Alpena News), and Dave Smrchek
The project site had been identified as a priority project on the Ocqueoc River Watershed Management Plan. The scope of the project included extending one of four culverts, rock ripraping the crossing to stabilize the bank and building a berm at the edge of the road to prevent sediment entering the stream from the road runoff. Looking towards the future, the next step will be to harden the road surface to further cut down on non-point sediment pollution entering the river.
This was a cooperative project involving Wolverine Power, the Presque Isle Road Commission, the Ocqueoc River Watershed Restoration Committee and Huron Pines. Thank you to everyone for your hard work and for another successful collaboration.
