Some of the Grayling rain gardens are getting makeovers this summer as part of an adopt-a-rain garden program for the Grayling Stormwater Project. In return for watering and weeding the gardens regularly, residents who sign an agreement to take care of them are choosing bigger plants to be added and will also receive a 4,000-gallon credit on their water bill each summer.
Seven rain gardens were upgraded in June, and nine more are under way. Some residents even chose to take over more than one--Carol Kolka is maintaining four gardens near her house! If you'd like to see the gardens in person, visit the south end of Lawndale street.
Those residents who didn't turn in the forms that were sent out in May can still do so. To learn more about the rain gardens or how to adopt them, contact Jennifer Muladore at (989) 344-0753 ext. 30 or jennifer@huronpines.org. |
