Iosco County: East Tawas
We are enlisting interested local citizens to assist in the Campaign to End Phragmites in Iosco County. Phragmites is a perennial wetland grass that has been threatening ecosystems along lakes, streams, ditches and in wetlands for many years in Northeast Michigan.
On Wednesday, June 10 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Huron Pines will be holding a training session to educate volunteers in proper identification of invasive and native phragmites, proper data collection, reporting, and how you can get involved. The event will be held in the Harbor Room at the Tawas Bay Beach Resort. Interested property owners will also have an opportunity to learn about a cost share program through Huron Pines funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for removal of phragmites on their property.
Space is limited for the event. Part of the training will be held outdoors so be prepared to head outside. For more information and to reserve a spot for the training event please RSVP to Tim Engelhardt at (989) 344-0753 x14 or tim@huronpines.org.
The Invasive Species Program is made possible through the Huron Pines AmeriCorps program. Huron Pines AmeriCorps is supported in part by the Corporation for National and Community Service, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, DTE Energy Foundation, Huron Pines and contributions from host sites.
